The world famous exhibition in Paris is organized by the Syndicat National des Antiquaires (SNA), the French association of antique dealers. Since 1962, the exhibition has only been held each two years. This will change in 2017. Thenceforward, it will take place every year. "An annual Biennale is an essential step forward, which was adopted by a large majority after the proposal of the President and the Council of the SNA," says Dominique Chevalier, president of the Syndicat National des Antiquaires.

A new feature of the Biennale 2016 is the international, 15-member committee, selected from members of the Board of the SNA, curators, art historians and collectors in advance. The committee had the task of selecting from an international pool of exhibitors, who may participate in the significant event. This year's show has a 40% increase in foreign exhibitors compared to the year 2014.

Also new for 2016er edition of the Biennale des Antiquaires is the integration of "Paris Tableau" - the International Fair of Old Master paintings. On Tuesday, 13.09, the Petit Palais will present a symposium entitled "The dandy, from Van Dyck to Oscar Wilde." Leading experts will dispute here deals on the development of the Dandy figure in male portraits from the 17th to the late 19th century.

If that is not enough, you will still get to enjoy three further special shows during the Biennale 2016. The Russia`s State Hermitage Museum shows "A Century of French Elegance, Masterpieces from the 18th Century". Le Mobilier National presents its exhibition in Paris, the history of furniture design in the 20th century. The furniture exhibition is branded "Tradition and Daring!" The third special exhibition "The Mastery of Time" comes from the Swiss Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie. With this exhibition, the Swiss art lovers want to highlight the history of clock-making and explore the measurement of time.
