George Michael dead
The music world now mourns again. George Michael, native name Georgios Kyriakos Panagiotou, was one of the greatest heroes of the 80s with his musical hedonism. On the one hand side he was a creative, singing half of the duo Wham!, whose song "Last Christmas" is been played for Christmas for more than 30 years now getting the world in the right mood, later as a celebrated solo artist, whose album "Faith!" became insanely successful and sold innumerable numbers.
The son of a Greek Cypriot father and an English mother grew up in a northern suburb of London. Here he met Andrew Ridgeley as a 13-year-old at school. Their manager Simon Napier-Bell, one of the last of the great tradition of homosexual British pop producers, united the two and started the successful duo Wham!
There were three number one hits out of their first album "Make it Big": "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go", "Freedom", and Careless Whisper. Thus, Wham! were the most popular topic besides the royal family. In 1986, Wham! separated with a concert at the Wembley Stadium. It became quiet around Ridgeley. However, George saw himself on a mission. He wanted to be looked at in a serious way in the pop world: "I must establish worldwide. This is my unstoppable ambition. I have to make it, I want to go down in history", said Michael once.
His first solo album "Faith" went through the ceiling. It was taken kindly in both, the white and the black audience. George Michael was the world's first white musician, who made it on #1 in the R&B album charts.
For the "Freedom `90" video, Michael engaged the five most famous top models in the world: Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Patitz and Naomi Campbell. Also later, in 1996, George Michael sang in the hearts of his fans. With the "Jesus To A Child" ballad, the singer created a tribute to his partner Anselmo Feleppa, who died three years earlier due to AIDS.
In later years, there was a little bit of music to be heard. Instead, there were a few negative headlines around the world star. For example, the story of the Beverly Hills public toilet or some spectacular car accidents.
Now, with just 53 years, another pop giant died.
Rest in Peace - George Michael.
